The theme that I used throughout this semester in my ceramics projects is contrast. First, almost all my projects have different colored glazes on them that in return gives contrast to the gallery I created. Also, I had contrast by the way some of my projects were purposely shaped smaller, bigger, wider, etc. Some examples of contrast would be my set of 2 plates. One of them is larger and more of a "dark mood', while the other one if more of a "tranquil" mood that is smaller. Another comparison is my set of 2 bowls that I made. Even though these two had very similar shape and composition, one of them had metallic brown glaze and the other translucent sea, creating contrast. Next, in my tall project it had a black and yellow glaze that contrasted each other super well by giving a dark, but also light. I made some of the projects smaller by getting less clay when starting on the wheel. To make projects wider, it was a bit more difficult, because it had to be done delicately when pulling the wall. Any small mistake and the wall could have collapsed. On the other hand, the glazing contrasting was trouble-free because all I had to do was choose what I wanted then painted it on. Finally, I decided to use this theme this semester because it's so important to everything in ceramics, and furthermore art. When learning about art, contrast is one the main things that is talked about. Moreover, when I looked over my work from semester 1, I thought to myself that I didn't have enough contrast, and I know I could accomplish putting more contrast in my projects if I got help and was determined. As I was looking through the art elements to choose from for a theme, contrast seemed more interesting and intriguing than all the others, especially in pictures. Focusing on contrast definitely improved my art skills and made me become more creative and diverse in my projects. Without contrast, the creativity of art would be marginalized. Through this process of learning more about contrast and using it in my projects, it gives me a better understanding of ceramics and art. It makes me appreciate more every art form that I see, and I'm able to enjoy art more. It improved me as a ceramics student greatly, and every person should include some form of contrast in their projects because it is greatly impactful.
